Registering : A Necessary Evil (Part 3)

One day I was going through an issue of Martha Stewart Weddings magazine and I came upon an ad for a Crate & Barrel registry party.

So I called my local Crate & Barrel to reserve a spot for the dude and I. I figured, I love Crate & Barrel...now I get to go in before the store opens and drool over everything and eat and mingle too? Hello!

So our week came and it was the only place that we had made a solid decision to register at. We walked in, checked in...got our scanner and off we went. There were reps on hand to explain their products. There was helpful staff for any question you could possibly have. Best of all, there was food all over the place! Cupcakes, smoothies, waffles, panini's and more! We had a blast and ended up spending almost two hours there wandering around collaboratively creating a new direction for our home.

After we finished we needed lunch (this seems funny after I mention all the food...but we got so wrapped up in debating certain things that we didn't eat as much as I would have hoped). We headed over to LaSalsa and had burritos to fuel our desire to keep registering (we found it to be fun instead of stressful).

After our delicious burritos we decided to hit up Macy's to see what they could offer. After waiting for a while we finally got to sit with a consultant and really look around. I was really interested in Macy's star rewards program...but was a bit deflated when I found out you had to have a Macy's card to participate. Oh well. I'm not going to sign up for another credit card just for that.

Another thing Macy's offered though was the opportunity to earn extra gifts based on what you register for. Say you register for a set of Calphalon pots and pans worth x amount from Macy's, if you get those...head back to Macy's and you get a free Calphalon gift. Heck, if you end up fulfilling it for yourself with your completion bonus...you get it then too! Cool.

It didn't hurt that we found things there we ended up really liking, so we went with it.

There you have it...where we registered and how we got there.

Oh yeah, I got a call about a week and a half later from Crate & Barrel that my free registry party gift had come in and that I could pick it up any time. Well, if you know me...you know that I feel 'free' is the greatest word in the English language. Naturally, we drove allll the way back out there to get said free gift.

Crap. I drove all the way out there for a vase. Ah well, maybe I can put candy in it at a party. We'll see.

So where did you end up registering? Were you happy in the end?
