The venue in which to party hardy

Is it party hardy? or party hearty? Hopefully both!

We ended up choosing The Old Whaling Station Adobe in Monterey for our wedding.

Here are some highlights which helped us choose this gorgeous garden of a venue:
-Tables and Chairs...they're included!
-Said chairs are NOT ugly
-Maximum capacity is 100 guests...we're inviting close to 90 and hoping for 65 to make it
-Ceremony and reception location all wrapped into one
-$1000...for the ENTIRE day
-Access to said adobe for changing and prepping - I can be on site all day and not have to worry!
-Less than a mile to Cannery Row (HELLO pre-wedding photo shoot)
-Less than a 1/4 mile to Fisherman's Wharf (HELLO post-ceremony/sunset photo shoot)
-Hello? It's gorgeous.

Let's see this place in action

Without a single decoration, this place is elegant

Perfect wood chairs are part of the amazing rental fee

There is an arch you can decorate ANY way you want...and anything would work in this setting!

You can even create your own arch using the perfect trees!

There is even access to a perfect spot for family portraits right outside the front door

Did you even notice the centerpieces in this picture? No, because the garden is so vibrant!

And...I mean...just LOOK at that entrance!

Finally, I could have real life pictures that look something like these!

Like I said before...you can get married in the middle of the street in Monterey and still have a gorgeous wedding. This place just felt RIGHT for us and our family. We even decided to have our wedding on an "off" day just to ensure we had this venue...but the price savings for that decision is totally worth it! Come to find out, you can turn that "off" day into discounts with other vendors too!

So, did you let your venue dictate the day of your wedding or did you have less of a draw to a specific venue and more of a draw to a specific date?

  1. Specific date! We got engaged in late September, and he was moving to Japan the second week of January. So, of course I wanted to be married before he left! We didn't decide for sure that the wedding was going to happen before he left until the end of October. The second to last Saturday before he moved was New Year's eve, giving me as much possible time (just over 2 months) to plan without getting married the day before he left. I called a couple places and of course finding a last minute venue for a major holiday is not easy. However, I was completely content with the the Naval Postgraduate School as a venue...and it was number four on my list. We got a 10% military discount on the room reservations and the food.

A lot of military couples do the courthouse wedding in a pinch to get the new spouse on orders and what not, then have their wedding-wedding at a later date with time to plan. I knew that I would likely never get a real wedding if we did the courthouse one first. So, I might not had have had everything exactly how I imagined it, but at least I had it! And I got a pretty great husband out of it, too.
